Almost all Chinese tourists who have been on independent travel to Taiwan want to visit the island again. That’s according to a survey conducted by global marketing research firm, AC Nielsen.
Among those Chinese tourists, more than 50% plan to visit Taiwan again within a year. They say they are attracted to Taiwan’s traditions, culture, people, natural landscape and local cuisine. On average, they plan to spend more than seven days on their next trip.
The survey found that tourists from China spend the most money on shopping. Their favorite attractions are the National Palace Museum, the landmark Taipei 101 skyscraper, and the Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall. Other popular sites include the shopping district Ximending and the Beitou hot springs.
Taiwan started to allow independent Chinese tourists in 2011. Previously all Chinese tourists to Taiwan were required to join tour groups. Taiwan raised the daily quota for independent Chinese travelers from 3,000 to 4,000 in mid-April.
