Taiwanese pop diva Jody Chiang has opened the first of her 25 farewell concerts in Taiwan with one of her most loved songs “Words After Drinking”.
Wearing a regal looking red dress, on Saturday Chiang launched into the Taiwanese-language love song and then picked up the tempo with other popular hits after quickly changing to other dresses. The stage performance included 16 dancers.
Around quarter of a million people are expected to attend Chiang’s 25 farewell concerts between July 25 and Sept. 13 in Taipei and Kaohsiung.
The 53-year-old Chiang, one of the biggest names on the Taiwanese-language music scene, unexpectedly announced in January that she was ending her singing career this year with a series of farewell concerts.
Her announcement set off a rush for tickets to the concerts, overwhelming the official ticketing site and ticketing machines at convenience stores around Taiwan during the three-day sale period.
