Deputy Shanghai Mayor Weng Tiehui arrived in Taipei on Wednesday for a visit. Weng will meet with Taipei Mayor Ko Wen-je on Thursday.
Taipei Deputy Mayor Chou Li-fang visited Shanghai in May and invited Weng to Taipei.
A Taipei City Government spokesman says the Shanghai deputy mayor’s visit is intended to build exchanges between the two city governments. The two sides will discuss issues such as classes for the elderly and metro systems.
Ko has said he would like to host a twin city forum with Shanghai in August. There has been no date set for the forum, but the Taipei city government spokesman says it will probably happen this summer.
