Speculation is continuing over a possible visit by the President of Sao Tome and Principe to Taiwan.
Sao Tome and Principe is one of Taiwan’s three diplomatic allies in Africa. President Ma Ying-jeou invited Sao Tomean President Manuel Pinto da Costa to Taiwan in 2014. With the Sao Tomean foreign minister now in Taiwan, there has been renewed speculation over when Pinto da Costa will accept Ma’s invitation.
Sources say that Taiwan’s government is treating the question of Pinto da Costa’s possible visit with sensitivity, since Pinto da Costa and his Cabinet belong to different political parties.
