The presidential candidate of the ruling Kuomintang (KMT), Hung Hsiu-chu, says it would be wrong to give up the vast Chinese market.
Hung made the comments on Saturday when talking to farmers in the southern city of Tainan. She said although agriculture only makes up a small share of the country’s GDP, it is still an important sector. She also said the government should explore new markets for farmers and encourage young people to take up agricultural work.
Meanwhile, in response to the escalating protest against revised high school curriculum guidelines, Hung said she does not think the protest will cost her support. She also said the revision was in line with the constitution of the Republic of China on Taiwan.
