Artists join campaign to scrap nuclear power
Artists against nuclear power

Artists and performers joined a candle-light vigil in Taipei on Thursday evening in support of former opposition chairman Lin-Yi-hsiung.

The 73-year old Lin started fasting on Tuesday to demand that construction on the fourth nuclear power plant be halted and the project be scrapped. He believes that the facility will never be safe.

The candle-light vigil started at 6:00 pm Thursday evening. Prominent writers, performers, directors, and poets took part to support the movement to halt construction of the new power plant. They also want to lower the threshold required for a referendum on the nuclear plant to be valid. The event drew nearly 1,000 supporters.

Participants also called to decommission the existing three nuclear power plants as soon as possible.
