The Central Weather Bureau said it could issue sea and land warnings on Thursday as Typhoon Soudelor approaches Taiwan. As of 8:00 am Tuesday morning, the typhoon’s center was located 2,000 km. east southeast off the coast of Taipei. It is moving at a speed of 20 km. per hour in the west northwesterly direction with a storm radius of 250 km.

If the storm’s path remains unchanged, a sea warning could be issued as early as Thursday noon and a land warning late Thursday night.

Soudelor’s huge typhoon radius could bring strong winds and downpours to the whole island even if the storm center does not pass through Taiwan’s northeast corner. The typhoon could approach land via Yilan or Hualien as it moves southward due to change in topography. The bureau is calling on the public to make necessary preparations.
