An annual US-Taiwan trade fair entering its fourth year has opened in Taipei.

The fair opened Wednesday and is sponsored by TAITRA, Taiwan’s external trade association. TAITRA has invited 15 US companies interested in purchasing Taiwanese goods and nine US-based suppliers to the event.

TAITRA President Peter Huang said Wednesday that the United States’ recent economic recovery has outpaced that of Europe, Japan and Mainland China. Huang said it is important to find ways to allow Taiwanese companies to benefit from US economic growth.

Last year’s event led to US$282 million worth of business transactions. TAITRA is predicting that with more US companies attending, this year’s trade fair will lead to even more business.

Vice Economics Minister Cho Shih-chao says US-Taiwan trade ties remain close. Cho said in 2014, Taiwan overtook India to become the United States’ tenth largest trade partner. Last year, the US was Taiwan’s second largest trade partner.
