Education Minister: Ministry will not sue students
Minister Wu

The education minister says the education ministry will not sue students for breaking into the ministry building over a week ago. Minister Wu Se-hwa made the announcement on Wednesday at a forum on controversial new curriculum guidelines.

He said that since the students have behaved rationally, the ministry hopes to see the incident come to an end. Wu has already officially asked the ministry of education to revoke the plans to sue the students. He said he hopes that students will leave before a typhoon tomorrow.

Students had said that they planned to continue to protest at the education ministry against the new history curriculum guidelines despite the coming typhoon.

Wu said that a one and a half hour discussion with students held Wednesday was peaceful. He said he will follow the decision of lawmakers and have the new curriculum guidelines reviewed. Schools will also have the freedom to choose their textbooks.

Wu said that in the future, the education ministry will invite student representatives to discuss the content of new curricula.
