The economics ministry says there are no direct links between flash flooding and reservoir discharge. The economics ministry made the announcement Saturday.
Vice Economics Minister Yang Wei-fuu said that flooding in many parts of the island is mostly caused by sewer systems unable to drain the massive amount of water they have collected in a short period of time.
Yang said the government has its own standard operating procedure (SOP) when it comes to reservoir discharge. He said besides the rainfall estimated by the Central Weather Bureau, other factors such as the actual precipitation level and reservoir water level will also be taken into consideration.Yang also said the flood discharge at Shihmen Reservoir has received approval from the Water Resources Agency. He said areas that are likely to be affected will be given notice at least two hours ahead of the discharge.
