Taiwan is moving towards lifting ban on imported Japanese food

Taiwan, in line with other countries, is moving towards lifting the ban on food imports from Japan. That’s the word from Foreign Minister David Lin on Monday.

The ban on imports of food from five Japanese prefectures has been in place since 2011 amid fears of radiation from the Fukushima nuclear disaster.

Lin said there are no concerns over the safety of imported Japanese food products since the government demanded Japan offer proof-of-origin and radiation safety certificates on May 15th.

The timing of easing the restrictions will be decided by the ministry of health and welfare but the two certificates will still be required in the future.
