About 4,500 soldiers are working on post-typhoon clean up and search efforts throughout Taiwan. That was the word from the defense ministry on Monday.
The air force has also sent two UH-1H helicopters to search for missing persons. The National Fire Agency says that at least seven persons were killed, five are missing and 402 injured due to the Typhoon Soudelor which hit Taiwan on Friday and Saturday.
Between August 6 and 9, the army sent 15,189 personnel and 849 vehicles to help evacuate 5281 persons and shelter 27 persons.
On Monday, President Ma Ying-jeou went to see the damages in Ilan County. He promised subsidies to farmers as many of them had many losses. The Yilan County Government on Sunday said agricultural losses due to the typhoon were at NT$200 million.
