The International Environmental Partnership (IEP) program initiated by Taiwan is allowing countries to work together for environmental protection.
Acting Assistant Administrator of the US Environmental Protection Agency Jane Nishida made the comments on Monday. The IEP was launched in April last year during a visit to Taiwan by US Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Gina McCarthy. The US is the first country to join the IEP program, which currently has 28 participating countries.
During the first IEP meeting held in Washington DC on Monday, Taiwan’s Environmental Minister Wei Kuo-yen said that Taiwan and the US signed a bilateral technical cooperation agreement more than 20 years ago. Taiwan has learned many pollution control methods from the US, including carbon emission reduction, waste management, and air quality monitoring. Taiwan also hopes to make a contribution through the IEP program.
The IEP program has helped more than 30 groups and organizations to carry out environmental research projects.
