The ruling Kuomintang has held a meeting on a two-part strategic plan designed to bolster the campaign of KMT presidential candidate Hung Hsiu-chu. Hung has come in last in polls taken since independent candidate James Soong joined the race last week.
But during Wednesday’s meeting, KMT Chairman Eric Chu said that it is still too early to tell who will win the race.
"Something may happen today to greatly affect the polls, but we are certain that we’ve seen that in this past six months to a year, DPP Chairperson Tsai Ing-wen’s poll figures have stayed the same," said Chu. "They haven’t grown. So we need to ask ourselves how we can get the support of more voters. The key is that we need to work hard."
Chu said that the KMT must work hard to gain the support of its 880,000 members and the public.
