Blocked roads hinder restoration of power to New Taipei’s Wulai District
Wulai

The Taiwan Power Company (Taipower) is reporting that blocked roads are stalling efforts to restore power to New Taipei’s Wulai District.

The mountainous district was hit especially hard by Typhoon Soudelor last week. Roads into the district remain impassable, and the district’s water and electricity supplies are still cut. As of Wednesday, 2,050 households in the district remain without power.

An official with Taipower’s Department of Power Supply said Wednesday that a team of 20 to 30 workers is near the area awaiting orders. However, the official said that workers will be unable to proceed until the Directorate General of Highways restores road access.

Taipower says that restoring power to the Wulai District’s main tourist street will take eight hours and repair work can only go ahead during daylight hours.
