Taiwan confirms 4th imported H7N9 case
The H7N9 virus

Taiwan’s Centers for Disease Control (CDC) has confirmed the country’s fourth imported case of H7N9 avian flu since last April.

The patient is a 39-year-old Taiwanese businessman. He developed symptoms similar to that of H7N9 infection after traveling to China. The CDC said on Saturday that the patient is still in hospital; it also said it is monitoring the more than 100 people that he came into contact with.

The CDC is currently in the process of reporting the case to the World Health Organization.

The patient was the second one identified in Taiwan this week. A 44-year-old tourist from eastern China was found to be infected with the virus Tuesday.

Taiwan confirmed its first and second imported H7N9 cases from China last April and December.
