Senior Dutch Representative Harry van Bommel is in Taiwan by invitation from the foreign ministry. He is in Taiwan to learn about Taiwan’s political and economic development and the current status of cross-strait relations.
It is the first time that a senior government official from the Netherlands has been invited to Taiwan. Van Bommel will be speaking at an international workshop on human resources development hosted by the National Academy of Civil Service. He will also be attending a forum organized by the European Union Centre in Taiwan to exchange views on the Netherlands’ foreign policy and European policy.
Van Bommel voiced his support for Taiwan’s bid to join international organizations at the Netherlands’ House of Representatives on several occasions. He is a member of the Socialist Party and has been a member of the Dutch legislature’s lower house since 1998. He will be visiting Taiwan until August 17.
