Taiwan won 5 gold, 7 silver and 4 bronze medals at the WorldSkills Competition, which wrapped up last weekend in Sao Paulo, Brazil. The team also received 18 honorable-mention “medallions of excellence”. It was Taiwan’s best results since it began participating in the event in 1970.
A total of 41 Taiwanese contestants participated in 39 categories at the event, which is known as the “Olympics of world skills”.
The event is billed as the world’s largest skilled trade and technology competition. This year, it attracted nearly 1,200 competitors from 63 countries around the world. It was first held in Spain in 1950 and has since been hosted by different countries every other year. The contest is organized into six categories, including skills in architecture, creative art and fashion, information and mass communication, manufacturing and technology, social services and transportation.
The next WorldSkills Competition will be held in Abu Dhabi in 2017.
