The Taipei-Shanghai Twin City Forum has begun in Shanghai.
Speaking at the opening ceremony on Tuesday, Taipei Mayor Ko Wen-je spoke on city-to-city exchanges and cross-strait relations. He said the two sides are “one family” and they should promote understanding, cooperation and mutual respect.
Mayor Ko also said he will actively promote cross-strait ties as long as they are beneficial to people on both sides.
The Taipei mayor said he hopes that the forum will create a win-win situation for both cities as two thirds of the global population will live in a city in the future.
Meanwhile, Shanghai Mayor Yang Xiong said his city would like to learn from Taipei’s experience in smart-city infrastructure, medical care, sanitation and cultural preservation.
