Two women’s tennis duos from Taiwan have advanced at the Western and Southern Open in the American city of Cincinnati.
Chuang Chia-jung and Hsieh Su-wei have entered the semi-finals after defeating Timea Babos from Hungary and Kristina Mladenovic from France. The Taiwanese duo came back after losing the first set 4-6, to win the next to 6-4, 13-11, and a spot in the semis.
Meanwhile, sisters Chan Yung-jan and Chan Hao-cing advanced to the quarterfinals on Thursday. Like the other Taiwanese duo, they lost their first set, but managed to make a comeback with the next two. They beat Caroline Garcia from France and Katarina Srebotnik from Slovenia, 3-6, 6-2, 12-10.
The teams are vying for a purse of US$2.7 million in the competition, which will conclude this weekend.
