The foreign ministry is watching developments along the Korean Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) amid rising tensions between the two Koreas.

Seoul has accused Pyongyang of planting a landmine which injured two South Korean soldiers earlier in the month. Pyongyang has denied the charge.

South Korea has since resumed the broadcast of propaganda messages across the DMZ. Both sides had halted propaganda broadcasts for 11 years, and the North has also resumed broadcasts of its own.

On Thursday, North and South Korea exchanged artillery fire. According to South Korea’s Yonhap News Agency, North Korea has ordered its troops along the DMZ to enter a “war-time state”.

In Taiwan, foreign ministry spokesperson Eleanor Wang said Friday that Taiwan is monitoring the situation. Wang said the foreign ministry hopes that both sides will work to maintain peace and stability in the region.
