A Taiwanese F-16 and its crew are safe after the plane was forced to land at an airport in Penghu.
“This morning an F-16 fighter jet took off from an airbase in Chiayi at 10:45am on a regular training flight," said military spokesman David Lo on Friday afternoon.
"At about 11am, the pilot noticed a malfunction in the signal from the main generator," he said. "The pilot moved quickly and in accordance with procedure, to land at an airbase in Makung, Penghu at 11:21am. Both aircraft and pilot are safe. The military would like to extend an apology for any disruption to air traffic that may have been caused by this incident. As for the malfunction in the main generator, the military is conducting an investigation.”
Lo said that mechanics are working to return the aircraft to service as soon as possible, and that there will be no impact on the regular reconnaissance missions.
