President Ma Ying-jeou has said that relations between Taiwan and Paraguay remain stable.
Ma was speaking Monday during a meeting with Victor Alcides Bogado Gonzalez, head of the Paraguayan Congress’ foreign affairs committee.
Ma said that Paraguayan officials have spoken out frequently on Taiwan’s behalf in international settings. He said that Paraguayan President Horacio Cartes voiced support for Taiwan at the UN last year. He also said that Paraguayan officials supported Taiwan at last year’s UN General Assembly debates and last year’s World Health Assembly.
Ma said that this support and frequent high-level exchanges demonstrate the healthy state of Taiwan-Paraguay relations.
During the meeting, Ma also discussed future bilateral cooperation. Ma said that Taiwan plans to help Paraguay in its efforts to eradicate poverty. He also said that Taiwan will also help Paraguay with a project to improve the efficiency of the country’s health information system.
Ma said he believes these plans will improve the living standard of Paraguay’s people while boosting exchanges between the people of Paraguay and Taiwan.
