The 11th round of high-level talks between Taiwan and Mainland China are under way in the Chinese city of Fuzhou.
On Monday, Taiwan’s top envoy Lin Join-sane led a delegation to China to attend the three-day event.
Lin is the chairman of the Straits Exchange Foundation (SEF), a semi-official organization entrusted by the government to handle cross-strait ties in the absence of official links.
Speaking at the airport, Lin said the two sides are expected to sign an agreement on preventing double taxation and an agreement on aviation security. Lin said the delegation will also examine how the accords inked earlier are carried out.
Lin said the the issue of Chinese tourists making transit stops in Taiwan will also be a topic of discussion.
"We have reached a consensus," Lin said. "However, because China has to adjust and revise some laws [to make it work], it is still uncertain when it will be put in place. But we hope it will be done by the end of this year."
On Tuesday, the SEF chairman will meet Zhang Zhijun, Minister of China’s Taiwan Affairs Office, to discuss ways of promoting exchanges and cooperation.
