Culture ministry launches “movie toolbox” program to promote Taiwan
Culture Minister Lung Yingtai

The culture ministry is beginning to distribute what it’s calling “movie toolboxes” in an effort to promote Taiwanese culture.

The program, which kicked off on Monday, is based on a French idea proposed by Culture Minister Lung Yingtai about two years ago. Each toolbox includes DVDs of 70 Taiwanese movies in nine categories. These movie kits will be distributed to schools and communities around the world through the Taiwan Academies and representative offices abroad. An online version of the toolbox can also be found on the Taiwan Academy website.

Culture Minister Lung Yingtai said she hopes the kits can help promote Taiwanese literature, culture, and performing arts.

“We launched our movie toolbox today," said Lung. "Taiwanese culture and movies are like keys that can help Taiwan make more friends in the international community.”

Lung said that additional movies will be included in the toolbox in the future so foreigners can learn more about Taiwan through the films.
