Taiwan’s top tennis player Lu Yen-hsun was forced to drop out of the Winston-Salem Open in the United States because of a back injury.
Lu was injured in the third set of the quarterfinal on Wednesday, where he defeated South Korea’s Hyeon Chung 7-6 (1), 1-6, 7-5. Lu was treated after the match and on Thursday morning, but continued pain and cramping forced him to withdraw from the tournament.
Lu said there is some inflammation in one of his disks, causing his muscles to tighten up. He said he is disappointed and hopes he will still be able to participate in the US Open next week.
