Taiwan again rejects Japanese claims over Diaoyutais
Washington Post opinion piece

Taiwan has again rejected Japanese claims over the Diaoyutai Islands, which Japan calls the Senkakus.

In Taipei, foreign ministry spokeswoman Eleanor Wang said on Sunday that any claim by the Japanese government, of sovereignty over the islands, would be illegal and invalid.

Wang’s remarks followed a move by the Japanese government to publish information about the islands on a Cabinet agency web site in an effort to assert claim over the disputed islands.

Wang said that from the perspectives of international law, history, geology, and geography, it is undisputable that the Diaoyutais are an inherent part of the Republic of China, which is the official name of Taiwan.

The Diaoyutais, some 100 nautical miles northeast of Taiwan, have been under Japanese administrative control since 1972. However, they are also claimed by Taiwan and China.
