A spokesperson for KMT presidential candidate Hung Hsiu-chu says that Hung has no plans to quit the race.
A Facebook post on Hung’s page late Tuesday indicated she might stop her campaign. But Hung’s campaign office denied talk of a withdrawal immediately.
Campaign spokesperson Wang Hung-wei said that Hung continues to have her party’s support.
"It’s apparent that the party is supporting her. Hung believes that she has greater responsibilities, and needs time to think about how to turn the tables around to win this election," said Wang.
"She will definitely not back out from the campaign. We are all very clear about that.”
Wang said that Hung has recently proposed stopping campaign activities. According to Wang, Hung has said she would like to rethink her future campaign strategies. Wang also said that Hung has also been considering ways of pushing forward important policies in the legislature, where she is currently serving as vice premier.
