Premier Mao Chi-kuo says that Taiwan has worked hard to prepare for joining in the process of regional economic integration.
Mao was speaking Friday at a meeting with members of the European Chamber of Commerce Taiwan (ECCT).
Mao thanked the ECCT for the advice it has given Taiwan on ways of improving the local business and investment environment. Mao said that Taiwan began working last year on revising laws to make them compatible with the goal of regional economic integration. He also said that he hopes the world can see Taiwan’s efforts.
At the meeting, ECCT Chairman Bernd Barkey thanked Taiwan for its efforts to curb greenhouse gas emissions. However, Barkey said that the lack of mandatory barcodes on certain food products creates a hole in Taiwan’s food safety tracking system.
Barkey called on Taiwanese authorities to close the gap in order to protect the rights of Taiwanese consumers.
