Foreign ministry spokeswoman Anna Kao said on Tuesday that Taiwan maintains its claim to sovereignty over islands in the South China Sea and waters. She was speaking in response to questions about Taiwan’s recent marine exercises.
"The Republic of China maintains sovereignty over the South China Sea’s Paracel Islands, Pratas Islands, Dongsha Islands, Macclesfield Bank, and Spratly Islands and their surrounding waters. We also hope that related parties can work together to maintain the area’s peace and stability. This has always been our clear stance," said Kao.
Kao said that Taiwan’s policy has been to put aside disputes and to cooperate with other parties in developing resources in the area.
