The legislature has approved the nomination of prosecutor-general Yen Da-ho.
The nomination was approved by a 62-0 vote in the 112-seat legislature. That’s despite the opposition Democratic Progressive Party’s (DPP) refusal to endorse the candidate nominated by President Ma Ying-jeou last month.
Lawmakers from the People First Party and the Taiwan Solidary Union were also absent from voting.
Yen graduated from National Taiwan University’s law school. He also earned an LL.M degree from the Dedman School of Law from South Methodist University.
The 65-year-old Yen is currently the chief prosecutor of the Supreme Prosecutors Office. He has served in the prosecutorial system since 1978 and was deputy justice minister.
