El Salvador Vice President Oscar Samuel Ortiz Ascensio is in Taiwan on a five-day state visit. He arrived on Sunday with a delegation of industrial and business representatives.
Taiwan’s foreign ministry said Monday that the trip is significant, as it will help promote cooperation and strengthen ties between the two countries. Ortiz is the highest-ranking Salvadorian official to visit Taiwan while in office.
During his trip, Ortiz will preside over the inauguration of El Salvador’s economic and consular office in Taipei. He will also attend a trade fair to help boost Taiwanese investment in his country.
Ortiz, who took office in June of last year, is expected to call on President Ma Ying-jeou and Vice President Wu Den-yih during his visit.
