Taiwan is keeping a watch on the refugee crisis and ready to give humanitarian assistance. That was the word from Minister of Foreign Affairs David Lin on Tuesday.

Media reports are saying European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker will announce a new proposal that would have European countries take in assigned number of refugees. There are over 100,000 refugees flooding into Europe from the Middle East. The proposal has 40,000 displaced persons assigned to Germany and 30,000 to France.

Foreign minister Lin said that Taiwan is in close contact with NGOs working with the refugees and is ready to offer humanitarian assistance. Taiwan’s NGOs have been giving humanitarian assistance to refugees from the Middle East. It has provided prefabricated homes to Jordan and Iraq as well as other materials for displaced persons.
