The defense ministry says that an unmanned US surveillance aircraft appeared near Taiwan Tuesday. The aircraft appeared while Taiwan’s military held its annual Han Kuang drills.
The aircraft appeared Tuesday morning and moved southward along Taiwan’s Air Defense Identification Zone towards Taiwan’s eastern airspace. A military command center sent an F-16 Fighting Falcon to intercept the aircraft, which was later identified as an unmanned Global Hawk from the US Air Force.
Defense ministry spokesman Luo Shao-he says that the aircraft remained outside Taiwan’s Air Defense Identification Zone, and the ministry monitored its activity.
