TAITRA, Taiwan’s external trade association, has organized an international printing forum in Taipei Friday. Speakers from the UK, Japan, and Hong Kong have arrived to discuss trends in the printing industry.

David Hsu, deputy director of the economics ministry’s Bureau of Foreign Trade, spoke about Taiwan’s printing industry.

"From the figures for the past 10 years, we see that the domestic printing industry has been generating stable value output and the market has saturated," Hsu said. "Domestic sales account for 88%. Last year, the output was around US$222 million, an increase of 0.69% from the previous year."

Hsu said that Taiwan’s printing industry is very domestic-market oriented, but because the market has saturated, the industry will need to transform itself and expand sales overseas.

More than 350 people attended the Friday’s forum.
