The foreign ministry says that Taiwan’s relations with the Vatican City remain stable.

The ministry’s statement comes amid reports in the foreign press suggesting that the Vatican might switch recognition from Taiwan to Mainland China.

In a statement on Friday, foreign ministry spokesperson Eleanor Wang said that Taiwan and the Vatican are continuing work on humanitarian aid projects.

Wang said that President Ma Ying-jeou, Vice President Wu Den-yih and Foreign Minister David Lin have all been received courteously during previous visits to the Vatican. She also said that Catholic charities are continuing their work in Taiwan as normal. Wang said that Taiwan and the Vatican enjoy a continuing relationship and share common values.
