Three archers from Taiwan beat their Korean rivals to pick up the gold in women’s recurve archery in Colombia over the weekend.
The archers, Tan Ya-ting, Le Chien-ying and Hsiung Mei-chien were participating under the team name Chinese Taipei. They were assured a medal going into the finals match at the Medellin 2015 Archery World Cup Stage 4. The second-seeded team from Taiwan faced off against the first seeded team from Korea.
It was a close call down to the final set, with the Koreans staging a strong come-back and forcing the Taiwanese archers to get a total score of 28 out of a possible 30. The first up for Chinese Taipei was Tan Ya-ting, who managed to score only 8, which meant her teammates would both need perfect scores in order to win. Both Le and Hsiung brought their A-game, each scoring a ten and securing the gold for Chinese Taipei.
Meanwhile, in the women’s individual recurve event, Le Chien-ying beat her teammate Tan Ya-ting to win the bronze. The win also gave Le enough points to leapfrog Khatuna Lorig from the United States to secure a spot in the 2015 Archery World Cup Final in Mexico City.
