A recent survey found that 97 percent of Taiwan’s college students plan to work part-time. That’s the word from the 1111 Job Bank. That’s the highest figure in eight years.
As for why students want to work, 62% said it was for the experience; nearly 60% said it was to earn spending money; and 30% needed a job to pay tuition.
Tuition is a burden for many students, and about 23% of college students have applied for student loans.
The job bank said it believes the demand for part-time employees has grown because the economy is not that strong and there are many atypical forms of employment.
The internet job bank said over 30,000 part-time jobs were available in August, which is over 10% more than last year. The fastest growing sector is agriculture, which is due to the success of the refined agriculture industry.
The job bank surveyed 512 students from August 28 to September 11.
