Taiwan’s Cloud Gate Dance Theatre will present four performances of its classic dance “Rice” in New York starting Wednesday.
The Cloud Gate performance will kick off the Next Wave Festival at the Brooklyn Academy of Music in New York. It will be the sixth time that the academy has invited Cloud Gate to perform and the first stop of the dance troupe’s US trip this year.
New York Times has praised “Rice” as the simplest yet most beautiful work of the dance troupe’s renown founder Lin Hwai-min.
The dance company was formed forty years ago, and it debuted “Rice” on a rice paddy in Taitung County in eastern Taiwan. The modern dance piece has received rave reviews both locally and abroad.
