Taiwan’s interior ministry is set to amend a law for public housing in accordance with suggestions from the Cabinet. That was the word from an interior ministry official on Thursday.
Director-General of the Construction and Planning Agency, Hsu Wen-long, said the agency will work with authorities concerned about amending the current Housing Act for public housing:
"We haven’t reached a conclusion on the specific locations and number of apartments," Hsu said. "We’re now seeking the legislature’s support for this amendment. The premier said public housing will involve surface rights and we must, therefore, amend the law to avoid future disputes. Basically, we will amend the Housing Act, following the premier’s suggestions."
Hsu also said that the new law will regulate surface rights, buying and selling, buyer qualifications, and land acquisition.
The interior ministry has been pushing for public housing at convenient locations, especially in order to accommodate younger Taiwanese.
