A high-level meeting between the head of Taiwan’s Mainland Affairs Council and the head of its Chinese counterpart has been delayed.
Mainland Affairs Council Minister Andrew Hsia was scheduled to visit China at the end of the month. The original plan was for him to meet with his counterpart, Zhang Zhijun, who is the head of China’s Taiwan Affairs Office.
On Friday, Hsia denied that the meeting was put off because of Taiwan’s upcoming presidential and legislative elections, which are scheduled for January.
"We have things to talk about so we’ll need to meet," Hsia said. "Both sides have been very busy with work and there are a lot of holidays coming up. We’re still discussing [a date], but we’ll definitely meet."
