Allied nations to show support for ROC’s participation at UN

Several allied nations are set to show their support for the Republic of China (ROC) during an upcoming UN summit and debate.

The Republic of China (ROC), which is the official name of Taiwan, is not a member of the global body due to opposition from China, which sees Taiwan as part of its territory. However, the ROC has been invited to participate in several UN-related organizations as an observer, under the name “Chinese Taipei”.

The ROC foreign ministry said the nations of Tuvalu and Palau are likely to speak on behalf of the ROC at the UN Sustainable Development Summit, which will take place from September 25-27, and during the General Debate of the 70th Session of the General Assembly, which will begin on September 28. The two countries are likely to show their support for “Chinese Taipei’s” recent participation in the World Health Assembly (WHA) and the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).

The diplomatic allies are also likely to speak about the ROC’s contributions to regional peace, and about the country’s ability and willingness to further participate in the United Nations.
