The economics ministry will host the MICE promotion program MEET TAIWAN to promote Taiwan’s MICE industry next month. MICE stands for meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions.
The economics ministry has been promoting Taiwan’s MICE industry since 2005. The industry’s output value in 2014 reached NT$36.1 billion (US$1.1 billion). Deputy director general of the Bureau of Foreign Trade David Hsu spoke Tuesday on Taiwan’s ranking in Asia.
Hsu said, "According to statistics published in May by the International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA), Taiwan held a total of 145 international standard conferences last year, ranking Taiwan 4th place in Asia."
Trade council official Walter Yeh said promoting Taiwan’s MICE industry helps develop economic growth in Taiwan.
Yeh said, “First of all, the MICE industry is the platform for Taiwan’s exports. Whether it is held locally or abroad, exhibitions are a promoter of trade. Every year, Taiwan organizes more than 1,000 exhibitions abroad, which increases exports. Another aspect is attracting foreign buyers and businesspeople to Taiwan and holding international conferences in Taiwan to increase domestic consumption which are a great boost to the economy.”
Leaders of the MICE industry from around the world will attend the MEET TAIWAN forum which is slated to take place from October 22 to 25.
