Taiwan’s representative to the United States, Shen Lyu-hsun, has attended a canonization ceremony led by the Pope in Washington DC.
Pope Francis is currently on a US visit. At the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington DC, the pope canonized the Reverend Junipero Serra and celebrated Mass.
Over 25,000 people attended the canonization ceremony, including the ambassadors of almost 50 countries. Shen was seated in the area reserved for foreign diplomats, which is significant because most countries only conduct unofficial relations with Taiwan. The Holy See is Taiwan’s only full diplomatic ally in Europe.
