Taiwan’s central bank has decided to lower key interest rates by 0.125 percentage points. The bank’s decision was announced after a quarterly meeting on Thursday.

It is the first time the bank has lowered interest rates in 16 quarters. The decision has also brought down the discount rate, the rate on accommodations with collateral, and the rate on accommodations without collateral.

The central bank says that the move is designed to stabilize prices as well as Taiwan’s financial market. It also says it hopes to stimulate domestic demand.
