The Tourism Bureau says that Chinese tourists may bring in earnings of up to NT$500 million (US$15 million) for Taiwan’s tourism industry during the first week of October.

The Mainland’s annual “National Day Golden Week” begins on October 1st. The weeklong holiday sees a surge in the number of Chinese travelers.

The Tourism Bureau estimates that the number of Chinese tourists visiting Taiwan over this year’s Golden Week holiday will see a 10% increase over last year. According to the Tourism Bureau, there are more than 33,000 Chinese tourists registered to go on group tours over the course of the week.

A similar rise is also expected in the number of independent Chinese travelers arriving in Taiwan during the same period.

According to figures gathered by the bureau last year, Chinese tourists visiting Taiwan spend an average of US$241.90 per day, second only to tourists from Japan.
