The foreign ministry says it is working to strengthen Taiwan’s ties with South and Southeast Asian countries.
Ministry spokesperson Eleanor Wang said Monday that the foreign ministry continues to push for the establishment of trade offices in Southeast Asia while strengthening cooperation in the areas of trade, fisheries, agriculture, medical care, education and culture.
Meanwhile, another foreign ministry official said Taiwan is closely monitoring Myanmar’s general elections to be held on November 8th.
The Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA) set up a trade center in Myanmar’s capital city of Yangon in 2012. Last year, the International Cooperation and Development Fund under the foreign ministry also established an office there to promote exchanges.
