President Ma Ying-jeou is urging both the central government and local governments to stay alert as Taiwan braces for Typhoon Dujuan.
Ma was speaking Monday at the Central Emergency Operation Center. He urged local governments to evacuate people from dangerous areas to reduce possible damage. He also called on the public to stay alert. Typhoon Soudelor, which hit Taiwan last month, caused nine deaths and left five missing.
President Ma said Typhoon Dujuan will bring heavy rain and strong gusts of wind in the afternoon. He urged local governments to be prepared to mitigate the typhoon’s damage.
Ma urged the public to stay indoors to avoid possible danger.
