Diplomatic allies voice support for Taiwan at UN
King Mswati III

Two of Taiwan’s diplomatic allies have spoken out in support of Taiwan at the United Nations’ general debate.

The UN General Assembly’s 70th annual debate began in New York on Monday.

During his address to the assembly on Tuesday, King Mswati III of Swaziland asked the UN to consider extending membership to Taiwan. The Swazi king said that the UN should adopt an inclusive approach as it moves forward with its 2030 agenda. He said Taiwan has the potential to contribute to the agenda in areas including health and information technology.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister of St. Vincent and the Grenadines Ralph E. Gonsalves called for the UN to include Taiwan in its specialized agencies. Gonsalves said that Taiwan’s perspective, experience, and responsibility as a member of international society are all factors supporting Taiwan’s participation in UN.
