Diplomatic allies Nauru and the Marshall Islands have voiced their support for Taiwan at the 70th annual UN General Debates.
On Wednesday, Nauruan President Baron Waqa said that Taiwan is a country capable of making contributions to global development and prosperity. Waqa called on the UN to admit Taiwan into its development organizations.
Meanwhile, President of the Marshall Islands, Christopher J. Loeak called for Taiwan’s inclusion in UN organizations including the WHO, the International Civil Aviation Organization and the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change. Loeak commended Taiwan’s role as a regional peacemaker.
The UN General Debates will continue through Saturday. Since the debates began on Monday, Paraguay, St. Vincent and the Grenadines and Swaziland have also voiced their support for Taiwan’s inclusion in UN organizations.
